Our youngest member Lizzie Briggs recently bumped into James Galway in Manchester and slipped him a copy of our latest CD.

Sir James’ verdict? “Loved your CD and the group sounds great!” Well done team!

‘….hearing them playing orchestral music which had been specially arranged for their instruments, you quickly forgot they were all flute players; with a wide range of pitch and with such a rich blend of colour and tone they produced a truly memorable orchestral sound….. indeed you felt the repertoire might almost have been written specially for them!’

Did you miss us? Panic not! Luckily for you here you can hear a snatch of our Haydn’s Allegretto from his ‘Le Soir’ Symphony or Tallis’s Theme in the Third Mode arranged for 3 basses and a contrabass.

Read this! After one of our latest concerts, the first with our new contrabass flute, this comment appeared in the letter section of The Westmorland Gazette.

The contrabass flute has arrived!

After many months of fundraising, we were finally able to purchase a Contrabass flute from Eva Kingma, which we received at the start of January and have used in two of our rehearsals. This gigantic flute means that Suzanne has to come even earlier to set up and our practice room is a little crowded these days, but I am sure that everyone would agree that it was worth every penny and will be good to show off in our concerts in March!

Smart music is a fantastic program that provides thousands of accompaniments for lots of pieces from the flute reportoire. With the intelligent accompaniment, smart music can follow you as you play meaning that you have control over pieces. You can also hear the melody for those dificult rhythms, record yourself, practise scales to an accompaniment and much more.
