Sylvie Heath, Flutes & Co member, professional musician and teacher led a group of eleven for a Musical Adventure Day by Coniston Water on Sunday 27th January. Sylvie says, “I am passionate about facilitating opportunities for people to engage with the outdoors and their own creativity, through walking and music making in a fun, encouraging and safe environment.”
The adventurers enjoyed a wild windy three mile walk with regular pauses to take in the sounds, horizon and movement which was then utilised to create a collective composition of three sections. This was performed, recorded and replayed to the group at the end of the Adventure Day who were all delighted with the result. The enormously positive feedback from the day was that the process had really helped members to reduce their feelings of intimidation around improvisation and composition, whist really enjoying a connection to nature and creativity. Sylvie is in the process of re-working the material for the whole group to play in our concert on July 6th in St Andrew’s Church, Sedbergh.
Sylvie is planning a Mountain and Music event open to all musicians (instrument and voice) Saturday 8th to Sunday 9th June. Based at Rydal Hall, participants will spend a weekend immersed in nature clearing the mind for imagination and creativity. There will be a 6 hour long guided fell walk with additional activities to gain a deeper connection with nature, a jam session, music workshops developing improvisation, composition, and performance techniques, yoga and much more.
