On Sunday 27th January Flutes & Co members will come together for a Musical Adventure Day based at Water Yeat Village Hall, Ulverston, Cumbria LA12 8DJ.
About the leader:
Sylvie Heath is a musician, outdoors enthusiast and Flutes&Co member. She has a BA Hons in Music Jazz, PGCE Secondary Music teaching qualification and is currently studying an MA in Music Performance. She has completed the Mountain Leader Training Course and is DBS checked. Sylive is a performing musician and composer and a very experienced music teacher of all ages.
She says “the experience, enjoyment and reward I get from the outdoors and nature feeds into my creativity and gives me the space to get inspired and motivated. I am passionate about facilitating opportunities for people to engage with the outdoors and their own creativity, through walking and music making in a fun, encouraging and safe environment.”
About the day:
Flutes & Co and Inspire members are invited to join together for a day of fresh air, adventure and creativity in the stunning Lake District. Family members are also welcome!
Based in Water Yeat in the Lake District close to Coniston Water, you will take part in a guided 3-mile morning walk in the fells exploring sounds from nature, followed by an afternoon of musical activities in response to the walk. You will use the voice, body percussion and your flute to improvise and compose music.
The music that we will create will be arranged into a piece of music that Flutes & Co will learn to play and perform in our summer concert.
A basic level of fitness is required; the walk is aimed for people who are used to walking. The walk will include uneven terrain and outdoor walking equipment will be needed (walking shoes/boots, full water proofs, etc.), please see the ‘what you need for the day’ section for a full list.
Minimum age is 6 years, all children under the age of 16 music be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
What you need to bring:
Clothing comfortable for walking in.
- Warm layers (i.e. fleece)
- Hat, gloves and scarf/buff
- Full waterproofs, top and bottom – waterproof coat and trousers ARE ESSENTIAL
- Waterproof walking boots or shoes
- Head torch
- Spare socks and change of clothes for the afternoon in case you get wet
- Snacks and water/drink for the walk
- Flask of hot drink for the walk (optional)
- Packed lunch
As this is a Flutes & Co activity there is no charge. We will be collection optional donations. All money received will go towards new music for the choir. If you wish to leave a donation, please bring cash or a cheque made payable to ‘Flutes & Co’ on the day.
